Subject: For historians, geneaologists, historical novelists, and map-fans.
Everyone else will ask, "What do I care about 200-year-old maps?" but we know they have dull lives.

Each coloured map is accompanied by two or three pages of encyclopedic information, explaining, say, the government of the country or the source of the name Westminster or where the county elections are held. One click on the Thumbnails will pretty much take you to the vicinity of the next map/chapter.

The coloured pdf is well-scanned, but with the ghostly inks of contact you must expect from a book that has been shut on a shelf so long. What surprised me is what a tidy job was done of converting those maps into the B&W version. Instead of letting them be the ordinary muddy mess, it seems the person converting this actually took the time to make them useful by playing with contrast until they print out nicely in black alone.

The pages are small, less than 4" x 6", and I could see printing them out on half-sheets or, for that matter, on blank 4x6 index cards. However, that leaves you with the tiny print, and you will probably be happier expanding it to fill a letter-sized sheet.
